#ShortList : Dive Sites of 2016

This list of dive sites from around the world comes from the PADI 5 Must Dive Destinations For 2016. Each site has its own local flavour, from cold to temperate waters, you’ll have first time encounters with curious sea life.

Kaldfjord, Norway

If you can brave the cold, then this dive site will be well-worth your time. Take the plunge with the world’s largest ocean dwelling predator – the orca (or more commonly known as the killer whale) – it’s one of the only places that provides such close encounters. When you’re not in the water, look out for the famous Northern Lights!

Jellyfish Lake, Palau

Dive amongst hundreds, possibly thousands of non-stinging jellyfish in the Jellyfish Lake. While it is well-known, it is one of the few places on Earth that has been left largely unspoiled. When you’re not in the water, relax in the tropical sunshine.

Lhaiviyani Atoll, Maldives

Just south of India, the Maldive is a tropical paradise offering some of the best live-aboard boats in the world. Glide alongside mantas, eagle rays, and turtles in the Lhaiviyani Atoll (one of 26 atolls in the region). When you’re not in the water, live it up in traveler’s paradise.

Darwin Island, Galapagos, Ecuador

Known for being the inspiration to Charles Darwin’s famous research into evolution, the Galapagos islands offer beautiful diving. The archipelago is a protected marine sanctuary and is home to a vast array of sea life – dive with penguins, marine iguanas, hammerhead sharks, turtles and rays. When you’re not in the water, admire the natural beauty and wildlife that live on the land.

Glover’s Atoll, Belize

As one of the most-affordable dive destinations, it is the perfect time to take the plunge! The world heritage site, Blue Hole, will have you experience reef sharks amongst million year old stalagmites and stalactites. When you’re not in the water, enjoy a romantic time exploring ancient Mayan ruins, or take a stroll through the rainforests that are home to the beautiful toucan.
